Hi hello yes hello how's it going
At the beginning(-ish) of 2023, I told myself I was going to post something for every week in the year, which would be 52 posts in total. I then proceeded to almost completely abandon this goal BUT THEN decided to not do that actually. All in all, I got 44 things done this year, which I can be ok with.
I've been wanting to do a roundup and highlight showcase for a while now, and there really is no better time than the new year. So, if you want to watch me circlejerk to my own art, you've come to the right place. We're gonna do this in chronological order, here we go.
(Also heads up, I have no idea how to best embed these so this might be a mess)
Great Release - Apr 6th
Ooh wow look at it, three separate people without faces instead of one! I think this was the first thing I did this year that I really ended up being happy with, and was also around the time I decided to actually try drawing ideas I had even if I thought they were too ambitious. Not my greatest, but something that I think was definitely a step in the right direction.
Seccom Masada - May 2nd
Yeah ok I still like this one a lot, AND it got my scouted so we take those. I fucking agonized over this one with the piano keys and the perspective and especially the background. Looking back on it, I wish I used thinner lines (this will become a trend) but I'll always look back on this one as when I actually started trying new things. Also, fun fact, this was when I started using sketch layers. If that sounds insane to you it's because it ABSOLUTELY FUCKING IS. I do not know how I functioned by just eyeballing it and hoping it looked good instead of actually planning things. Pro-tip kids, plan a drawing before you make it.
Comically Large Bat - Jun 29th
Bit of a jump here. Is this one particularly great? No not really. Is it funny? I mean I think so. Again, wish I made the lines thinner but I eventually figured that one out. I mainly like this one because I pumped it out pretty quickly and just kind of had fun with it, despite its obvious flaws. This one gets the participation medal of honor.
Ceaseless - Aug 31th
Ooh yeah baby actually hue shifting a little AND three people but with (copied) faces?? I like this one particularly because it's actually a redraw of an OLD post of mine on Twitter before I started posting here (which will NEVER see the light of day). Also, I think I cooked with the background and again, just had fun with it. ALSO also, guess who started using thinner lines around this time? I really don't know what I was on using a 7-8 px brush for nearly a whole ass year. Hylics fucking rocks, play that game (but maybe start with the second one).
do the hustle - Sep 29th
I feel like I'm kind of obligated to put this here just based on the amount of time I spent on it. It was a fun piece to work on and I got to include my stupid little references that only I'll understand. In retrospect, I wish I made it taller because goddamn I swear it's not that small in the actual file. The background starts to lose me a little, and if I were to make it today I'd have other plans for it but what can you do.
Skinny Fists - Oct 20th
I honestly really like this one. I don't know what it is or why I do but I do. It was also around this point I was starting to shade differently and mess around with colors slightly. I think I started to get a little lazy with the background in the end but overall I still like how this turned out. A big thumbs up from me.
It's that time of year again - Oct 23rd
Ok so October was a good month for me I think. Also, I kind of hate that title. Yeah I think this one still goes crazy and was where I started to grasp shading a little better and is VASTLY better than the old way I used to shade clothes. For some reason the image never embedded properly so I'm going to try and drop the fit here, if it doesn't work again this is going to be very embarrassing but funny regardless.
Pilot - Dec 15th
Skipped over a couple but I can only circlejerk myself for so long here. I like this one yes. I tried using the whole imagine the torso as a pillow thing for the perspective here and sort of freehanded it and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I fucking love this guy's design and I think the pixel art in the game is immaculate. Also uhhhhh, shading? I like how I shaded this one.
WONDER OF U - Dec 25th
It's a Christmas miracle! Long time JoJo fan (because of fucking course I am) and had gone a shockingly long time without drawing anything from it. I fucking cooked here, I feel like I can say that, I don't know what was in the water that day but I was grinding that shit out. Would've been nice as a last post of the year but I did need to round out that grid. I do wish I just shaded it normally but that's what the two variations are for.

That's it it's over goodbye 2023. All in all, if I'm being 100% serious I am happy with my progress this year as I think it's the first year I started taking drawing actually seriously (and seeing as I'm almost 21 I probably should've started way fucking sooner but oh well). Maybe next year I'll actually meet my own goal of 52 projects, or maybe even go over? Who knows.
